NAUTA FIRST PRIZE COMPETITION WINNER IN SHENZHEN – CHINA

We are happy to announce that NAUTA is the winner of the Q city International Urban Design competition for the requalification of the Yantian district in Shenzhen.
NAUTA’s project promotes the redevelopment of the Dameisha Urban Village by adding a ‘diffused hotel’. By analyzing the local statistics about tourism trends and types, we propose to add the social layer of the informal tourist (backpackers, culture lovers, students), willing to mingle with local habits. This type is perfectly applicable to the local rental schemes, in which single owners or cooperatives manage the low budget rental units fort the unregistered floating population.
Tourists will be integrated into this system, while experiencing the real cultural background of Shenzhen. This strategy wills to contribute to the preservation of the Urban Villages from progressive demolition, by strengthening local economy and promoting the spontaneous improvement of public space and its sanitary conditions. Upon proven success of the model with the pilot project, it can be further exported to the 200 urban villages that are disseminated in the metropolitan area of Shenzhen.

NAUTA IS PART OF CHINESE DOCUMENTARY ON SHENZHEN

In 2016 NAUTA will be part of a documentary produced by Phoenix TV, focused on the city of Shenzhen. The documentary will illustrate the evolution of the metropolitan area in the last decades, on how the local economy is progressively shifting from manufacture to service. By interviewing Maurizio, the documentary director wills to open a discussion on the role or urban agriculture. In fact, until recent time, the local government neglected this sector as associated to a poor past of economic stagnation. The interview questions the power of contemporary agriculture technologies and strategic planning of generating new forms of investment and sustainable employment that could become base for a new industry and leadership of the metropolis, both in the Pearl River delta region as well as the whole country.
