NAUTA’S HOFPOORT AT ‘DAG VAN DE ARCHITECTUUR’
NAUTA’S HOFPOORT AT ‘DAG VAN DE ARCHITECTUUR’
NAUTA is invited to contribute to the ‘Dag van de architectuur 2013’ (Architecture Day 2013), which is organized in and around the empty Hofpoort building in the centre of Rotterdam.
SHABBY VACANT OFFICE INTERIOR HOSTS JEWEL FOR 24h.
NAUTA’s Hofpoort envisions the possibility to redefine the use and role of this urban phantom by means of sustainable hybrid combinations, suitable for the current market trends that do not allow mono-functional developments in the city centre. The project uses collective spaces, roof gardens, mixed facilities, to improve the lifestyle of its inhabitants. We propose to fragment the tower into 4 autonomous stacked buildings, capable of differentiating program and tenants: – a plinth, dedicated to commercial uses, with a supermarket and a department store. – A newly defined office block, with less than 5.000 rentable sqm. – Above the office we add the only new element, used as club restaurant and entrance lobby for the top volume. This extruded volume reaches the adjacent building and seats on its roof making it perfect for open air activities. – the last top piece of the tower hosts new apartments and penthouses, far enough from the traffic of Hofplein. The intermediate terraces are redesigned as vertical green spaces, implementing the overall environmental performance of the complex. The newly defined tower becomes a machine, an icon for the new sustainable developments in the centre of the city of Rotterdam.
